However, it doesn&#8217;t offer a linux package manager via the command line interface (like apt-get).  This means that a lot of useful command line tools are unavailable out of the box.  This article will explain how to install the community tools which will make your Synology server even more powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing the Community Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Open the Synology DSM (<code>http:\/\/${your synology ip}:5001<\/code>) and navigate to Package Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"158\" height=\"132\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-32.png?resize=158%2C132&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-635\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on <code>Settings<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"226\" height=\"59\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-33.png?resize=226%2C59&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-636\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <code>General <\/code>tab, in the <code>Trust Level<\/code> section, choose <code>Synology Inc and trusted publishers<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"305\" height=\"186\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-34.png?resize=305%2C186&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-637\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-34.png?w=305&amp;ssl=1 305w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-34.png?resize=300%2C183&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to the <code>Package Sources<\/code> tab and click <code>Add<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"415\" height=\"92\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-35.png?resize=415%2C92&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-35.png?w=415&amp;ssl=1 415w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-35.png?resize=300%2C67&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In <code>Name <\/code>type <code>SynoCommunity<\/code> in <code>Location <\/code>type <code>http:\/\/packages.synocommunity.com<\/code> and click OK<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"493\" height=\"82\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-36.png?resize=493%2C82&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-639\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-36.png?w=493&amp;ssl=1 493w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-36.png?resize=300%2C50&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Go back to the Package Center and you should see a new tab for <code>Community<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"233\" height=\"162\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image-37.png?resize=233%2C162&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-640\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on Community and review all of the new packages that are available.  At the very least, I suggest adding Git immediately.  Git can be installed just like any other package in the package center.
