But you&#8217;ll probably want all of your old photos too.  There are several ways to do this (<a href=\"https:\/\/bullyrooks.com\/index.php\/2021\/02\/02\/backing-up-google-photos-to-your-synology-nas\/\">including a previous solution I used to use<\/a>).  However, if you just need to do a backfill, I think google takeout is the best solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create a Takeout Archive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, make sure that you&#8217;re logged into your browser with your google account and head to <a href=\"https:\/\/takeout.google.com\/\">takeout.google.com<\/a>. We want 1 export and I opt for the larger size, but this will depend on your broadband limitations (how reliable it is, if you have a data cap, etc&#8230;).  When you have the correct configuration hit create export.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"662\" height=\"594\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-14.png?resize=662%2C594&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1058\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-14.png?w=662&amp;ssl=1 662w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-14.png?resize=300%2C269&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 662px) 100vw, 662px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This will start the export and a message will tell you its on the way:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-15.png?resize=668%2C267&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1059\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-15.png?w=668&amp;ssl=1 668w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bullyrooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-15.png?resize=300%2C120&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now wait for an email which has a link to the export which will allow you to download it from the google server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Store Archived Images on Your NAS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, go ahead and create a folder where you&#8217;ll store the archived photos.  Again, I use a special cloud backup directory (<a href=\"https:\/\/bullyrooks.com\/index.php\/course\/backup_your_synology_nas_to_backblaze\/\">because I backup to backblaze<\/a>), so I create a new directory for my archived photos in there (<code>\/volume1\/brian\/b2-backup\/google-photos<\/code>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the takeout export is available, I pull that down on my PC and extract the .zip file to that location so that my individual photos, videos and albums are extracted.
